Privacy Policy

Last updated 2026-08-01 · How we handle your information.

This is a starting-point draft for the Strollionaire beta and will be reviewed by legal counsel. It explains what we collect, why, and your choices. Strollionaire is based in South Africa and aims to handle personal information in line with the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA).

What we collect

Account details — your email, display name, and a securely hashed password.
Location— while you use the Game, your GPS coordinates and accuracy, with timestamps. We keep a short trail of recent locations to verify claims and check-ins and to detect spoofing. If you switch on “Show me on the map” in Settings, your most recent position is also shown to other players while you are playing — see below.
Device & network — IP address and basic device/browser information, used for security and anti-fraud.
Gameplay — the land, buildings, balances, quests, and activity that make up your game.
Support — anything you send us by email.

Why we use it

To run the Game — show the map, verify where you are, award and track in-game items.
To keep play fair and accounts secure — email verification, two-factor sign-in, and anti-cheat.
To send account and gameplay emails (verification codes, password resets, and, if you opt in, notifications).
To operate rewards and, where enabled, payments — subject to verification.
To fix problems and improve the Game.

What we do NOT do

We do notsell your personal information. We don't track your location when the app isn't in use, and we don't use your precise location for advertising.

Who we share it with

We use a small number of trusted service providers who process data only to provide their service to us:

Hosting — DigitalOcean (our servers and database).
Email delivery — Resend, to send verification, reset, and notification emails.
Payments — Paystack, to take card payments for Earth Bucks. We never see or store your card details.
Advertising — Adsterra, which serves the ads on the Ranks screen.

We may also share information where required by law, or to protect the Game, our players, or others.

Showing you on the map

You can choose to appear on other players’ maps while you play, as a walking figure with your display name on it. This is off unless you turn it onin Settings, and you can turn it off again at any time — you disappear from everyone else’s map within seconds.

While it is on, other players see your current position only. They do not see a trail, a history, or anywhere you have been, and you stop appearing entirely once your position is more than about ten minutes old. Nothing about this is stored for later: it is read live from your most recent fix and never kept as a record of where you walked.

This is the only way another player can see where you are. Everything else about you on the map — your land, your buildings, your name on a tile — comes from what you own, not from where you are standing.

Advertising

We show ads on the Ranks screen only. There are no ads on the map, none on your Wallet, and none anywhere you handle money — we keep third-party code away from those screens deliberately.

Those ads are served by Adsterra. To deliver and measure them, Adsterra receives your IP address, approximate location derived from it (country or city level — never your GPS position), device and browser details, and the page the ad appeared on. It may set cookies or similar identifiers on your device. Adsterra acts as an independent operator of that data under its own privacy policy, not on our instructions.

Your precise GPS location is never shared with advertisers, and we do not use where you walk to target ads. Ads are also not personalised using your gameplay, balance, or purchase history.

You can block ads with a browser extension or content blocker without losing access to any part of the Game — nothing is gated behind viewing an ad.

Area statistics (only if you opt in)

In Settings you can switch on “Help map busy places”. It is off unless you turn it on, and turning it off again takes effect on the next update — including for days already counted.

With it on, your landmark check-ins are counted into area totals that we may share with local businesses: how many visits and how many different people a neighbourhood saw on a given day, and roughly when it was busy. The area is about 700 m across.

What is shared contains no names, no accounts, and no coordinates — only counts. A place is left out entirely unless at least five different people checked in there that day, because a total covering fewer people can point back at an individual.

How long we keep it

We keep account and gameplay data while your account is active. Location-trail entries are short-lived and used for verification, then aged out. When you delete your account we remove or anonymise your personal information, except where we must keep records to meet legal, security, or anti-fraud obligations.

Your choices & rights

Turn location on or off in your device settings — though the Game can't function without it.
Opt in or out of push notifications at any time.
Ask us to access, correct, or delete your personal information, or to close your account.

To make a request, email support@strollionaire.co.za. Because the Game is 18+, we do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18.

Security

We protect your account with hashed passwords, email verification, and two-factor sign-in, serve the site over encrypted HTTPS, and limit access to personal data. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to keep your information safe.
